Study of the Book of Mark
Leader:  Trefor Thomas

This study will focus on the first 8 chapters of the book of Mark.  These chapters look in large part at the identity of Jesus.  Mark’s gospel is a fast paced, no nonsense text that is an incredible view of Jesus.  His account is a stark reminder of the “good news.”  Taking a closer look at Mark’s gospel will be a great way for us to prepare for the upcoming season of lent.   Our discussions will include lots of insights from Tim Keller’s book “King’s Cross.”  I hope you will join us.

Who Do You Say that I Am?
Jesus in a Pluralistic World
Leader:  Martin Gornik

The goal of our sessions together will be to deepen our devotion to Christ by increasing our understanding of the uniqueness of Jesus.  We will explore the basic truths of the uniqueness of Christ which are central to our Christian faith by reading excerpts from Why Jesus by N.T. Wright and Jesus Among the gods by Ravi Zacaharius. We will also grow in our ability to respond  to our neighbors who often take offense at the claims we make about Jesus Christ. Each participant will receive weekly a devotional picture and writing for use between sessions.

Walking the Way of Passionate Humility
Leader: Pam Buck

1 Peter 3.8:
Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind.

“Humility is one the virtues that lies deep, often hidden, within character. It makes itself known no in grand gestures, but across the whole lifetime.”

We will explore, discuss, and reflect on what defines humility, events that draw humility out of us, and “seek to find a form of humility that is robust and confident enough to cope with the world today and which is true to the example and teaching of Jesus.”

We will be using portions of the book Barefoot Disciple: Walking the Way of Passionate Humility -- The Archbishop of Canterbury's Lent Book by Stephen Cherry. The above quotes are from that book.
